Great year in Britain, great year at British Fashion Awards
Nov 28th
It is no secret that British fashion has been embraced by the world and the entire industry in the past year, I would say that after the Royal Wedding, British talents started to invade boutiques, red carpets and high streets worldwide. So this was a great year for it to be my first time at the British Fashion Awards ceremony, which took place at The Savoy Theatre last night. I must say that I have never been somewhere with so many celebrities at the same place, every British designer I truly admire was there and my beloved Mexican actress Salma Hayek too, so I did enjoy it to its best. Congratulations to all the winners and to the amazing Spanish shoe god Manolo Blahnik who received a very special recognition. Stella McCartney was awarded twice, including designer of the year after all the excitement of London Olympics 2012; Cara Delevingne, who in the latest season hit the catwalk over 30 times, won model of the year; and Alexa Chung won ‘British Style’ for the third time; when receiving the award she said: ‘I now live in New York and sometimes get homesick, so it’s great to know that I still get this in here.’
It was a bit of a hazard to catch up with the event straight from the office. Imagine those movie scenes where she changes in the taxi? Well, something quite similar happened with me last night! No hair done, make up, nothing, just put the dress on and get in! I love the improvisation sometimes though. Also by the quality of the photos you will see that I didn’t have my proper camera, but here you go, a piece of my night at the Awards.
Great ceremony. Lovely to see the fashion industry gathered at one place, and don’t know if you are a fan, but singer Rita Ora closed the ceremony. See all winners here.
What do you think about the winners?
British Fashion Awards 2011 at The Savoy
Nov 29th
A couple of months ago I mentioned that London became top #1 fashion capital, overtaking New York. Much talent, plus good and tragic news -Alexander McQueen’s death- triggered London’s coronation in the media, but the Royal Wedding was the most obvious event that made it happen.
Last night the British Fashion Awards were held at London’s exclusive The Savoy hotel in Mayfair.
Once again TV presenter Alexa Chung won the British Style award 2011 – by public vote.
Sir Paul Smith received the Outstanding Achievement Award 2011 and Stella Tennant won over Georgia Jagger and Kristen McMenamy as Model 2011.
Other awards:
Designer Brand 2011: Surprisingly singer-turned-designer, Victoria Beckham, took over the unique Tom Ford, Burberry and Stella McCartney. Her loyal followers and growth has won her this prize in the fashion business.
Emerging Talent Award 2011: Greek Mary Katrantzou -influential force in the Ready-To-Wear category.
Red Carpet Award: Stella McCartney – countless celebrities have wore her designs for different red carpets in the UK and America
And of course the Designer of the Year 2011: Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, who became the most popular British designer after designing Kate or Catherine Middleton’s wedding dress.
