The Indian style in clothes and accessories embraces mostly every season, with different styles and colours. It could go very Colorado, USA during winter or very colourful during summer and that was exactly what I spotted on the SS13 collections of Fiona Paxton and Buba London, both adding an opulent colour palette of bright and neon tones to the gorgeous designs. I simply felt in love with both signatures.
With very different concepts, of course, their pieces are stunning.
Fiona can’t hide her love for Indian artisanship with the iconography of the British punk era she grew up in. Bringing her background and love into luxury jewellery she mixes different materials and adds a touch of bright colour to opaque designs, as well as lovely mosaics to the long and thick necklaces, bracelets and earrings. The first Paxton necklace on this post just blows me away with the materials and colours, it is the gorgeous piece that would make the look.
Buba London is mainly known for its embellished handbags but it now introduces this new line of jewellery. On its side, it gets more into a feminine soul with flower shapes decorated by colourful stones. However, it also goes geometrical with sharp pyramids around the neck, creating a statement piece. Hello weekend!!! And just before enjoying the fabulous sunshine, I share with you, as promised, the two events I went to on Thursday. I first went to a networking event for women hosted by Maiden Voyage and Maserati at the Met Bar, where I had a great time with new and old faces, tried chocolate cocktails (not my favourite), learnt about Maserati and top beauty tips when travelling.
I then ran to My-Wardrobe’s event at the St. Pancras hotel, which after years of restoration looks traditionally majestic, very classic and high class with lots of red, gold, high ceilings, long hallways and stairs. It took place at the Royal Suite, which has an artistic pop modern picture of the Queen and where they showcased their best S/S12 pieces from their best designers, as well as the beauty products you can usually shop at My-Wardrobe, I even got a little Kerastase present from James, who kindly suggested I should use it to turn my hair healthier looking, so thanks for the tips! I spotted a really cool pair of J Brand jeans and gorgeous clutches. Enjoy the photos of the events and the video when I was in the cab/taxi going from one event to another (I even started showing what was inside my goodie bag). My full outfit here!
Have a lovely sunny weekend!
Yesterday I had the privilege to meet designer Angela Missoni, who came directly from Milan just for an exclusive presentation of her SS12 collection, ‘Sunrise Birds’.
In a lunch/cocktail, clients and fashionistas enjoyed a great time at the Sloane Street boutique with the Missoni team, that together, offered delicious food and drinks as they tempted guests with my favourite Missoni’s collection so far.
Inspired in the Spanish flamenco, the sexy swinging fringes on the pieces, particularly on the shawls, send you to a stage full of Spaniards dancing the so popular Sevillanas, playing the Spanish guitar and saying out loud OLE! However, at the same time the collection sends you to the Mediterranean, immersed in sexy swimsuits, shorts and dresses made by gorgeous richly crafted textures. And the shoes… oh gosh, the wedges!
Every piece looks carefully made with asymmetric cuts, alterning stunning colours in a collection of its iconic signature knits, rainbows, see-through pieces, slipped-shoulders, open waves, ruffles, prints, fringes, patterns and laces. It highlights women’s sensuality but keeps Missoni’s classic pattern, it just adds a fun modernism and a Spanish soul.
As Angela told me she has only travel from Milan to London for that event, she also looked pleased with the great feedback SS12 had, seeing guests’ excitement with the collection, which as it arrived, it also ran out. Ladies were stepping out the store with their exclusive orange bag. And yes, what an enchanting lady Angela is and thanks Missoni for a great lunch time!
Spring is getting closer and it’s bringing lace, prints and pastels colours within. London Fashion Weekend catwalk presented the SS12 collections of Holly Fulton, Antipodium and Jasper Conran, and created two trends: Prim Rose and Game On.
Prim Rose introduced a collection of romantic pieces, hazy pastels and bright colour blocking in a white and clean summer. It kept silhouettes traditional and prim, adding a collar to the looks in a full experiment of palettes and hues.
Game On, inspired in the sporty mood of the upcoming London Olympics, brings sport luxe to the runway. The trend combined techno fabrics with silks, sportwear, retro swetears, mixing cashmere and silk jerseys, for an Eighties touch, which clashes with the modern prints.
Holly Fulton presented a light, tropical and sensual collection for a poolside elegance. With lots of silk, prints and vibrant colours, the collection includes fringes, tote bags, crochet-square skirts and dresses, and weightlessly pants. (Amazing white jacket -check out the photos!)
On the other hand, Antipodium introduced a flavour of the vintage that is now so in with retro-inspired shapes, sixties mini-skirt, boyish brogues, full-volume skirts, pastels, chiffon and thin belts, stablishing a comfortable family line.
Jasper Conran gave an innocent spirit to a collection of geometric figures, sharp cuts, and surprising backs, as designs seemed to be too squared, until models turned and revealed a sexy open back on relaxed dresses that give a sense of freshness.
To be honest, there was nothing I could say I really felt in love with more than Fulton’s white jacket. Liked some of her pieces (zebra & fringed dresses), Conran’s open backs and Game On’s shoes. What do you think? It is time to get inspired for Spring looks!
FashionInsideOut had the amazing pleasure of visiting the new collection’s showroom of the Italian brand Dondup. With a great cocktail party in London Dondup plans to invade the capital with its unique pieces by top designers Manuela Mariotti for the women’s collection and Kevin James Morley for the men’s collection.
Everything is made locally at the embracing Italian town of Fossombrone and exported to London, where the collection is available at Knightsbridge’s department store Harvey Nichols.
While enjoying the night with great DJs, guests could walk around the room and have a look at the new collection, which with a touch of trashy vintage and a warrior spirit could bring a unique elegant style… Ohhh Italiaaaans… Mamma Mia!!!
The women’s collection is inspired by the American film from 1979, The Warriors, in which different gangs of sailors, baseball players, moonrunners and warriors came together to “fight the enemy”, but instead Dondup brings a message of love and friendship rather than hate and war.
So, collections are inspired by six particular gangs: The Sailors, full of white, blue, red and gorgeous blazers; The Romantics brings the 17th Century to the 21st; The Moonrunners gives an innocent touch with floral prints and comfortable fittings; The Baseball, inspired by the popular NY Yankees, features sporty tops and silk blouses; and The Warriors, as the strongest, has elegant pieces and lots of black and grey colours with designs coming purely from Manuela’s heart.
On the other hand, designer Kevin tells us that the men’s collection is called “The Wanderer” and his pieces made with Italian and Japanese fabric bring to life “a guy that travels from place to place, who gets some money to eat and live by playing music and being an artist.
“That guy is my inspiration”, says Kevin.
Check out how this ginger model takes the role of the Wanderer Kevin is inspired by: Look Book – Dondup SS 12 MAN
And believe it or not this afro boy (Kevin James Morley), who makes reference to Bob Marley when spelling his surname, is a South Londoner from Croydan, who has been four years based in Fossombrone fully committed to Dondup. However, although he has been travelling around and living in Italy in the past years, his English spirit is still alive, if you ask him where to go for an afterparty, he will suggest “the pub”.
Meanwhile, top model Andres Velencoso has been the face of the brand for over four years while living between Barcelona and London. This Spanish guy not only caught Kylie Minogue’s attention, but was also in the eyes of the fashionistas at the reception, where with a great mood he agreed to pose for my lens. After some shots trying to get the baseball ball in the air, we finally achieved it and of course, I squeezed in the picture as well.
